Feb 21st 1-2-3: Channel Yourself
1: Channel Yourself ( 2 minute read )
There are times where emotions can run high, and that is a perfect time to create something.
Hear me out. I know how it can feel, to feel emotions in such a strong manner that you are either distracted or unmotivated. Happiness can make it so that you want to prolong the moment. Or sadness so that you don’t want to begin at all. There are many permutations of this.
The thing is, creating even when you are feeling that way can be one of the best things you can do.
It is well known that channeling these emotions into works of art can create some of the most powerful works. Since emotions are such an important part of the human experience, making something while feeling them tends to make powerful art.
It can also be healing and restorative.
Many an Artist has used their strong emotions as a source of energy to create art. This is because when we are using that emotion to create something, we are also processing the emotion. It allows our brains the opportunity to digest what we are feeling and why we are. At the end of a creative session like that, we can both have healed and created something.
Lastly, it can promote resilience and strength.
I love writing for this newsletter, but I would be disingenuous if I said every time my day to write something came along I was super jazzed to write. Far from it! Sometimes it can feel, dare I say it, to be a bit of a drag.
Yes, this is where the iron can strike the hottest.
See we talk a lot about creative approach with the goal of being consistent creatives. When we feel emotions or feel unmotivated in and of itself, that is the most important time to create. Doing so makes it so that the work gets done no matter what, which strengthens our resolve and makes us more resilient so that we aren’t tossed by the wind and waves of life.
I hope this inspires you, and gives you direction and a game-plan for when you are feeling something that is preventing you from creating. Remember creating while you are feeling a lot can:
Help you make some of the best and most creative works
Help with you processing your emotions
Make you a stronger and more resilient creative.
Remember these things, and when you feel strongly, create something.
2: Creative Prompts From Us (ex. Write a short story, a poem, a song, or draw a quick illustration of these! Let your imagination run free.)
I. Have a daily minimum creative goal that you know you can complete. This way if one of those days crops up where you are not feeling it, you know what mark you have to hit to ensure you are consistent.
II. Start marking down your streak of days where you meet your minimum creative output goal.
3: Inspirational Quotes From Others
I. "To truly laugh, you must be able to take your pain and play with it." - Charlie Chaplin, Filmmaker and Actor
II. "There is nothing to writing. All you do is sit down at a typewriter and bleed." - Earnest Hemingway, Author
