Feb 14th 1-2-3: Explore Someplace New
1: Go Explore ( 1 minute read )
Did you know that most people tend to go the same places?
It’s true, we are creatures of habit and we love the comfort of the familiar. We go to the same coffee shop. We get gas at the same station. We go to the same bookstores.
But remember, those places were once new to us.
It is so important to have an adventurer’s mindset when it comes to your travels. I am not necessarily talking about a vacation or long distance travel. It can be someplace new in your local area.
I try to visit new places frequently.
This has had the effect of giving my mind a new vigor and excitement. I have noticed that my mind takes in the new stimulation and gives me new ideas for poetry, art, and music. This also expands your realm of experience which is such an important part of life.
Going to new places also gives you new eyes.
No not literal new eyes (though that might be cool to imagine)! I am talking about a new way of seeing things. New shops, parks, restaurants, views all have the effect of changing and renewing the way you see things.
This can be a very valuable tool in your creative toolset, but it is also just great for your soul.
Art reflects life, and life reflects art. It thus, makes sense, that new places would affect your life AND art.
Just some food for thought! I for one will be looking to visit someplace new this coming weekend to see what it brings about.
I hope you do too!
2: Creative Prompts From Us (ex. Write a short story, a poem, a song, or draw a quick illustration of these! Let your imagination run free.)
I. List your top 3 places you go. Are there any other places you can go nearby that are similar? (coffee shop, grocery stores, book stores, etc.)
II. Go online and see if you can find new places near you that you haven’t visited and then go visit one of them this weekend! Record how this affected you.
3: Inspirational Quotes From Others
I. “A mind that is stretched by a new experience can never go back to its old dimensions.” – Oliver Wendell Holmes, Physician and Poet
II.“You get your inspiration from where you find it, and from where you take it.” – Bob Dylan, Songwriter
III. “Not all those who wander are lost.” – J.R.R. Tolkien, Author
Thank you so much for reading!
