Mar 14th 1-2-3: Art And Life

1: Art and Life ( 1 minute read )

Art is special, because it evokes thoughts and emotions.

If life is reflective of art, then art must also be reflective of life. We don’t realize how often we are being affected by the art we’ve consumed in our lives. It can be a trip in of itself to look back and what some of our favorite movies, books, music, video games and more has influenced who we became or how we think and feel.

As much as it is beautiful, it can also be cautionary.

Perhaps there are truths that you hold to that are not reflective of life as it is, but life as it has been presented. It can feel good to wallow in certain emotions and not process them. Or to dwell in thoughts that don’t help us that are perpetuated by the art we consume.

It can also be cathartic to engage with certain pieces of art.

Seeing that there are others that have gone through what we have can be a way to feel not so alone. Or perhaps listening to music that is fast and energetic can help us expend our own physical energy to bring about calm. Maybe we find some solace in the simplicity of a piece of art.

We can also find inspiration and mind-expanding pieces of art.

Genres of music that our ears are not attuned too yet can oftentimes become some of our favorite songs. Poetry that you’ve never been drawn to suddenly springing forward in rhyme and melody. Paintings that weren’t a point of attention now drawing you into a world and headspace you don’t want to leave.

I suppose what I’m saying is, all of these are thoughts, emotions, life. Art is wonderful like that. It reflects the life of the one who created it, which was itself reflective of the art that they themselves consumed. Art is everywhere, not just in drawings and performance, but even in nature and creation.

We ourselves are art. Enjoy breathing, and enjoy living. Life is too short to not cherish.

2: Creative Prompts From Us (ex. Write a short story, a poem, a song, or draw a quick illustration of these! Let your imagination run free.)

I. Everything that exists, first had to either be written or drawn. Look around where you are now. Observe the little details of design and art around you.

II. Think about the reasons “why” behind the design and creation of the objects, art, and things around you. What can you learn from this?

3: Inspirational Quotes From Others

I. "The purpose of art is to make the invisible visible." – Paul Klee

II. "The artist's job is to be a witness to his time in history." – Robert Rauschenberg

III. "Art is not a mirror held up to reality, but a hammer with which to shape it." – Bertolt Brecht

Thank you so much for reading!
